KAY ALBERTIE : Chief Executive Officer

Kay J. Albertie serves as Chief Executive Officer of RKA Petroleum Companies, a company founded by her father, Hilmer Westphal Leemon, in the early 1950’s. The company began as a small distribution business of “Pure Oil” home heating oil in the Detroit, Michigan market. Since that time, Kay worked with her husband, Roger K. Albertie, to develop the business into a full service fuel provider to Governmental, Commercial, and Retail customers.

Kay’s husband and business partner passed away in 2004, and since then, Kay has partnered with her children, Keith Albertie, Executive Vice President, Kari Elliott, Retail Director, and Kyle Albertie, VP of Florida Operations, to lead the organization to being the best in class in national fuel supply and service.

Kay graduated from Western Michigan University with a BA in Education and serves on several Philanthropic Boards. She enjoys traveling and spending time with her grandchildren.


KURT VAALER : Chief Financial Officer

Kurt joined RKA Petroleum Companies in January 2008.  Prior to joining RKA, Kurt spent over 15 years working for Tier 1 suppliers in the automotive industry.  He worked for both large public companies and also privately held companies holding positions in plant operations, accounting, finance, purchasing, systems implementation, and quoting.  Kurt has worked in rapid growth companies leading the accounting and finance areas while holding the controller and CFO positions.

Kurt received his B.A degree from Northwestern College in Watertown Wisconsin.  He continued his education at Keller Graduate School in Milwaukee, Wisconsin where he received his MBA in 1990 with a dual major in accounting and finance.  Kurt became a licensed CPA in 1993.

At RKA, Kurt’s responsibilities include Accounting, Treasury, Tax, Credit and Information Systems.  His focus in these areas will be to develop best in class processes and systems to establish RKA as a leader in the wholesale petroleum business.

Kurt resides in Monroe, Michigan.  He is especially fond of the small town environment having grown up in rural North Dakota.  He enjoys most outdoor activities but does favor cycling and horseback riding.

KEITH L. ALBERTIE: Executive Vice President

Keith graduated from Detroit Country Day School in 1989 and went on to the University of Arizona, graduating in 1994 with a Bachelors in Fine Arts with a minor in Marketing. Keith was a member of Arizona's ice hockey team for four years. After graduation Keith moved to Los Angeles, California taking up a career with NBC Studios.

After three years of learning the ropes in the real world, Keith returned to Michigan to join the family business in late 1997. As a member of the third generation at RKA Petroleum Companies, Keith brings a strong drive for success, and competitiveness to the business. Outside of being raised in the oil industry, he started his career with RKA by restructuring the technology within the company alongside Jason Hittleman, RKA's Director of Biofuels & Information Systems. Once the foundation was formed, Keith moved on to improve efficiencies in their home heating division and cardlock network. In 2000, he began the restructuring of the Wholesale Department. He has built an extremely strong wholesale department with several loyal employees over the years. He currently oversees sales in 27 states, handles all throughput agreements with the RKA Terminal, oversees all government sales, and is a leader in the overall RKA mission.

Keith is married to Jacqueline, has twin girls and a son, and resides in Birmingham, Michigan. He enjoys playing ice hockey and golfing on a regular basis.

KARI ELLIOTT: Retail Branding Director
"" Kari joined RKA Petroleum Companies in 1992 after earning a Bachelors degree from Northern Michigan University. She is one of three children of Roger and Kay Albertie. As the Retail Branding Manager, Kari is responsible for overseeing all retail operations. Kari brings a strong marketing and public relations background to the company and has been instrumental in building a diverse dealer network in Michigan. Kari is married to Brian and they have three children together.
KYLE ALBERTIE: General Manager of Land and Sea Petroleum Holdings

Kyle attended Fork Union Military Academy in West Virginia for three years and graduated from West Bloomfield High School in 1995. He went on to Western Michigan University where he majored in Business Management.

Kyle joined his family business in 1997 and began working in the company's Dispatch Division. Kyle spent several years learning the business from a hands-on approach, working in several areas of the company. In 2003, he was promoted to the Transportation Manger. Kyle is now responsible for all transport and tankwagon operations as well as all of the repair operations. He and his team have also implemented RKA's Driver Safety Program and continually sponsor ongoing safety training.

Kyle and his team continue to improve their operations to better service RKA's diverse market mix.

Kyle resides in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He enjoys golfing on a regular basis.

RICK ENRIGHT : Vice President of Supply & Transportation

Rick joined RKA Petroleum Companies in December 2008.  Prior to joining RKA, Rick spent over 19 years working in the petroleum industry.  After receiving his Bachelor’s degree in B.A. and Executive MBA from Youngstown State University, he joined BP Products North America, where he worked in various roles within the Retail and Marketing, Supply and Trading, and U.S. Commercial Fuels Group for most of his career. 

Rick left BP in March 2005 to join FuelQuest, Inc. where he gained supply chain and tax automation experience and managed some of the largest accounts in the industry.  He has worked in several strategic fuel sourcing and project manager roles helping companies centralize and leverage their fuel spend, while implementing fuel management system technologies and platforms.   

At RKA, Rick’s responsibilities include developing and leveraging supply procurement opportunities within the refined product markets to provide RKA customers with attractive spot and index pricing options. He is responsible for business growth for Romulus terminal, branded and unbranded channels.  Rick will also provide risk management strategies using futures, derivatives, and other financial tools for RKA and their customers to help manage market volatility.  Rick negotiates pricing and supply arrangements for gasoline, distillates, biodiesel, and ethanol.

Rick resides in Chicago, Illinois, is married to Connie and has a daughter and son. He will split his time between the Chicago and Romulus offices.  Rick enjoys playing golf and hiking on a regular basis.

JASON HITTLEMAN: Director of Information Systems & Biofuels

Jason graduated from Cranbrook Kingswood Schools in 1999 and went on to the University of Michigan, graduating in 2003 with a Bachelors in General Studies. There, he focused on Business, Information Systems, and Alternative Energies.

At an early age, Jason began working at MARS Advertising in Southfield, Michigan as their Systems Administrator. During the two years he was there, he was instrumental in the development of their network operations. In 1998, Jason joined RKA Petroleum Companies and worked alongside Keith Albertie for one year to develop RKA's network infrastructure. Today, as RKA's Director of Biofuels & Information Systems, Jason is responsible for all of the company's biofuel initiatives and information systems. He handles the company's biofuel investments, biofuel blending infrastructure and quality control programs and is the Chairman of the Alternative Fuels Board for the company. Jason has, and continues to work diligently to improve the company's business processes through logical applications of technology. He is a leader in the overall mission and strategic outlook for the company. In addition to his daily responsibilities, Jason is also responsible for the marketing, public relations, and educational outreach programs for the company. Jason serves as the Chairman of Philanthropy for the Detroit Oilmen's Club.

Jason enjoys running and currently resides in Birmingham, Michigan.

TERRY ROSENFELDT: Terminal Manager

Terry joined RKA Petroleum, LLC in 1999, shortly after our acquisition of the Citgo Romulus terminal. Terry has worked in the terminal business for over thirty-two years, most notably for Ashland Oil before it was purchased by Marathon. Terry is responsible for all of the terminal operations including pipeline receipts, rail car unloading, and daily rack operations.

Terry is married to Cynthia and resides in Westland, Michigan. He enjoys vacationing in Las Vegas and playing golf in his spare time.

PATTY VAN LEUVEN : Human Resources Manager

Patty joined RKA Petroleum Companies in 1987 after studying business at Ferris State College. She has continually upgraded her HR credentials through numerous conference and study programs.  She is responsible for all human resource duties carried out within the RKA family of companies.

Very much a people person, and with strong family ties, when she is not in her office helping her fellow employees, she can usually be found at her cottage on Lake Michigan with her husband Colin, some of their four children, and their dogs.
